Taipei 101 - by Peyton

One cool place is a 509 meter tall building called Taipei 101. Which at one point when it was built, it was the tallest building in the world it has 101 floors, a super fast elevator, and overlooks the city and mountains.

Inside Taipei 101 there is a big shopping mall and there is a fairy garden at one point.

You can see Taipei 101 from many places throughout the area. This photo is from an overlook on a hike the building is the tall one in the middle of the picture.

At the top of the building where the over look is there are some fake and real plants and decorations around the top area.

In the top center of the building there is an 18 foot, 660 ton pendulum, which keeps the building from collapsing, by minimizing movement of the building. It does this by swinging in the other direction and counteracting the weight when a severe storm hits.

When you go up to the top overlook you can see many things like the whole city and many mountains around it. You can also see all the interesting designs of the buildings.

  1. I find it so hard to imagine that Taipei has gotten so huge and built up in the last 53 years. There were probably a very few 6 story buildings when we were there, but more 1, 2 and 3, plus the size of the city was teeny compared to now. And n Metro system, of course. Your mother did throw up once in a bus, probably right around Shilin.

  4. I was wondering what the 101 was for! Thanks for teaching me all about it. Though I'm not sure I'd trust a building that relies on a pendulum. Yikes! Wendy
