Zhang Mei Ama's farm and Scallion farm - Peyton

Image
In Yilan they grow many scallions so scallion pancakes are popular there. There is a place where you can make and eat your own scallion pancakes. Scallions are a plant that grows in fields. When it grows it looks similar to rice fields. We made are own scallion pancakes in a class which was in all Chinese. Two people from Singapore helped translate it for us. After the scallion pancakes were done cooking we ate them and they were delicious. After that we drove down the rode the Zhang Mei farm. It is a small fenced in farm with many different animals that you can feed and pet. At the zoo they also had capibaras which are the biggest rodents in the world. In one cage there was a cute little honey bear that was asleep.

Dinner in the night market by Talia

Image
This was our last night in Shilin and we worked our way though the night market and ate dinner there.  This was Tangulu, a fruit with a mixture of sugar and water boiled to three hundred degrees. It was really good having the mixed taste of fresh fruit and a hard sugar coating. This was my favorite of everything that we ate. We have been hearing this guy for a while because he has a really big flamethrower that he cooks meat with. We decided to try it and it was really good. Dumplings are always good but these dumplings were the best.                                                                                                                                  ...

Tea Pot Mountain by Peyton

Image
We went to a big mountain called Tea Pot mountain. It was a very nice hike it did not take too long and there were great views everywhere from the hike. At the end there was a big jumble of rocks that you could climb through and go on top of them. At the ground level there there are multiple buildings that are gold museums, because there was a lot of gold mining in that area. You can also go into an old mining tunnel, and there is a virtual reality minecart experience in a different building.

We went to Yehliu Geopark. It is a park right next to the ocean with many cool rock formations. There were also many sand dollar fossils in the ground.

Then and Now - Yehliu Geopark

Can you identify the girl in the picture?   Three birthdays celebrated in Taiwan - 1, 2 and this year. We rented a car today and drove out of Taipei for a week exploring the North East part of the island.  Happy that we were successful in renting a car online.  For some reason, the rental posting said we would get 50% off a sausage.  We never could figure out what that meant.  But onward in the journey...
