Serbia by Mark

Velcome to Serbia! Note the early 1950's architectural charm we were greeted with.  Actually I really liked Serbia, partly because I was very familiar with the culture.

My observations:

- They totally and completely LOVE their dogs.  You see them everywhere and in the parks, they are always off leash.  Everyone is good with them running around, (for the record the dogs were all well behaved).  It was awesome for me to see (I hate the thought of a dog not being able to run and play.)

- These parks were also well used, people had dogs playing, were working out, and kids were playing in the fountains.

- Like many of the counties we visited, they smoke a lot.  This is odd for us to see because it is not common in the US.

- We were surprised to see graffiti everywhere. From our experience graffiti was not indivictive of a bad neighborhood.  We walked all over Belgrade and I never felt worried for my family.

Talia needs to understand that communism is good, once she gets that (outside of the Fairfax public school system), we will let here out of the elevator.

For those who don't know, my stepfather Peter was from Hungary, and I grew up right next to a Hungarian neighborhood, had Hungrianian friends, etc...  Yes, I know, and like, the eastern European culture.

We caught up with my wife's, sister's, ex husband, Aca, and their son, Luca, in Serbia...  Aca was a huge help and made this leg of our trip great.
Here's Aca with a typical Serbian snack of approximately 6,261 calories per person.   The next shot is your favorite travel family plus Luca.

Pretty cool old fort we visited with lots of armor from various wars and countries; this is a sure hit with Peyton, but also everyone else--at least this time.

I was able to find and coordinate a wrestling practice in Belgrade.  The coach and team were great to us.  This practice was on Father's Day so I tried, and failed, to make Peyton feel guilty.  Peyton had fun at this practice and he needed to burn off some of the excess energy.  We also had a 40 minute walk home at 10 PM and passed 5-8 bars with groups outside watching the Serbian team play in the world cup (they like their soccer).

Pictures I like:

One of the parks I mentioned at the top, and and ex bunker we saw on a walking tour.

New fashion trend and Peyton hanging around.
