Yangminshan National Park - from Lynette
We recently took a day trip out to Yangminshan National Park. Just an hour bus ride from Taipei (at a total cost of 50 cents/person), Yangminshan is a popular hiking spot.
After some missteps on park busses, and invaluable help from rangers, we made it to the trailhead for Mount Qixing, Taiwan's tallest dormant volcano. In the pictures below you can see us hiking along the way and at the summit. Hiking here involves LOT of steps going straight up, followed by a lot of steps going straight down, and some amazing views all along the way. The picture with Mark and Talia is on a very rare flat spot. In the view at the top, if you look closely, you can spot Taipei 101 through the fog. My favorite aspect is the automatic external defibrillator boxes placed along the trail. This first one is after you climb about an hour straight up.
We had to pass on the area with water buffalos since we made more mistakes with buses, but we did find the hot spring foot baths and met a nice Taiwanese woman who helped us find the right bus to get home. She also suggested that we try stinky tofu while we're here, but I think we'll pass on that suggestion.
Wow. This is pretty amazing.
ReplyDeleteWow, is that the trail going up the mountain in the 3rd to last photo?
ReplyDeleteYep! And that was actually a less steep part of the trail!
